IgniteLI Hosts Historic Legislation in support of MFG Communities

Made in America Manufacturing Communities Act 2022

Hauppauge, NY 2/28/2022; IgniteLI, the Manufacturing Consortium of Long Island, hosted Senator Kirsten Gillibrand for the announcement of her legislation to bring support to American Manufacturers. The “Made in America Manufacturing Communities Act 2022” will inaugurate a Manufacturing Communities Support Program within the Department of Commerce to marshal federal resources to support American manufacturing, strengthen the domestic supply chain, and create well-paying jobs.

The national Industrial Defense Complex is threatened by the state of global supply chains and the unprecedented skilled labor shortage. This legislation, “will strengthen the US manufacturing base, promote stable investments in local economies, and strengthen the domestic supply chain.” Consortiums like IgniteLI will be designated “Manufacturing Communities,” which will then be made eligible for federal financial or technical assistance designed to expand and support domestic manufacturing. Eligible consortiums would, for instance, include partnerships between commercial industry, state and local government organizations, and academic or workforce training organizations to convene community stakeholders and set the foundation for long-term investments in manufacturing communities.

“As the Manufacturing Consortium of Long Island, IgniteLI with its education partners, business partners, government stakeholders and applauds Senator Gillibrand for her forethought and unrelenting support of American Manufacturing,” said IgniteLI Executive Director Patrick Boyle. He went on to complement the legislation as “a critical step to ensuring manufacturing support structures endure while companies adapt to market and labor shortages.”
