Albany, NY- The Long Island Lobby Coalition traveled to Albany on Tuesday, February 25thto meet with the Long Island Senate and Assembly delegations as well as the Governor’s office to advocate for the coalitions legislative and budget priorities for 2020 which included the Manufacturers Intermediary Apprenticeship Program for NYS (MIAP).
Dozens of small business and community leaders urged state representatives to secure funding for important transportation, sewage, and infrastructure projects, housing, human services, environmental programs and support legislation to benefit small business and encourage economic growth like MIAP.
Manufacturers Intermediary Apprenticeship Program for NYS
We support MIAP as a budget item in the 2019-20 NYS Budget for $1.25 million. MIAP began as a PILOT in Central NY in 2016 and because of its success and support from the state budget, the program has expanded to the Hudson Valley, Capital District and Southern Tier of Buffalo, we are now looking to grow this program on Long Island and require the support of our legislators. The need for MIAP on Long Island is great, presently there are 2500 manufacturing job openings in Nassau County and 5,700 in Suffolk County resulting in loss for industry. MIAP is designed to fill these critical positions with skilled and dedicated workers and has proven itself across the state.
